Ep 28: The Poster Boy Of Disruption with Terry Jones
As a public speaker, author of two books, and owner of five startups, Terry Jones has been called the poster boy of disruption. He says it all started when he decided to spend a year traveling the world after college. Upon his return, he decided he wanted to get into the travel business. Following the traditional path, he went to work at an agency. Just six months in, his manager approached him about doing their own startup. So, they quit and started their own agency. In just five years, they built it to be the 50th largest agency in the US.
Terry found himself using cutting-edge technology for ticketing purchases. He found the technology so fascinating, he got involved in sales for a mini computing company. As he rose through the ranks, he found himself in charge of a computer system that was responsible for 40 airlines. He was passionate about running the online booking system, but knew he could do it better. That’s when Terry founded Travelocity.com. With 12.4 million unique visitors and 91 million page views, to say it disrupted the industry is an understatement.
